Sofía Gómez Alberto

Sofía Gómez Alberto is a Spanish violinist and violist based in London. She recently completed her Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music, where she studied in the class of Itzhak Rashkovsky and Bryony Gibson-Cornish as a Gladys Hay Scholar.

Passionate about chamber music, Sofía has performed in venues such as the Elgar Room and the Wigmore Hall. She is the violist of the Isla String Quartet, which was recently selected as 2025 Tillett Debut Artist, and she is also a founding member of the Iridescence Ensemble, a flexible ensemble dedicated to bringing 20th and 21st century chamber music to a wider audience. 

As a keen orchestral player, Sofía took part in the 2023/2024 BBCSO’s Pathway Scheme and has been freelancing with the London Symphony Orchestra since early 2024. She has also performed with the European Union Youth Orchestra and LGT Young Soloists.

Sofía was recently awarded the Tagore Gold Medal at the 2025 RCM Graduation Ceremony. Other prizes and awards include the 3rd Prize at the 2023 Llanes International Viola Competition, the Viola Prize at the 2022 RCM Viola Competition and the 2018 Junior Guildhall Lutine Prize.

Sofía’s teachers have included Nathan Braude, Lutsia Ibragimova, Yuri Zhislin, Anna-Liisa Bezrodny and Valeri Gazarian. She has performed in masterclasses with Maxim Vengerov, Alina Ibragimova and Nobuko Imai, and has also attended festivals such as Prussia Cove, Keshet Eilon, Hellensmusic and Schiermonnikoog. Sofía is grateful to have received support from the Antonio Brosa Award, ABRSM Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award, St Marylebone Educational Foundation, Albert Cooper Music Charitable Trust, AIE and FIDAH Foundation towards her studies. 

Sofía plays on a Giovanni Grancino violin c.1700, kindly on loan from the Harrison-Franck Family Foundation in association with J&A Beare.
